Founding father Benjamin Franklin once famously remarked that “beer is proof that god loves us and wants to ensure our happiness.” Considering the long-lasting love affair that Americans have with sudsy beverages, this statement seems quite prophetic in hindsight. Beer, it’s wonderful, isn’t it? This tasty beverage is enjoyed not just in America but the world over. And on April 7th, we recognize our affectation by observing National Beer Day. And there’s no better location to celebrate than Captain Eddie’s Seafood.
A Day of Great Significance
The reason that National Beer Day is celebrated on April 7th is certainly no accident. While beer is a consumer good that’s readily available at stores, bars, and restaurants, this wasn’t always the case. For a period of thirteen years, from 1920 to 1933, the sale and consumption of alcohol were illegal. This period of time, known as prohibition, gave rise to violent crime as alcohol became a favorite commodity of bootleggers and mobsters. On April 7th, 1933, President Franklin Roosevelt allowed the sale of beer to be legal again. As a result, we honor this day by enjoying a few libations and celebrating the pursuit of happiness.
