June is an ideal month in Florida for fishing enthusiasts. Although the temperatures get hot, hot, hot, the fishing remains perfectly fine. Fishing is fruitful all over the Sunshine State throughout the summer months. Warm waters attract tons of fish ready for the taking…or catching! Captain Eddie’s brings you the best fish to enjoy in June.
Freshwater
Summertime is renowned in Florida for being the pinnacle of Largemouth Bass fishing. Lake Kissimmee, Lake Okeechobee, Lake Tarpon, and Lake Toho are celebrated as freshwater lakes where massive bass reside and can weigh even more than 10 lbs. The toasty heat of summer causes bass to shy away from sunny surface levels of the water and find relief in the shade close to various structures or vegetation.
Inshore
Snook season gets a huge boost during the summer since snooks are greatly influenced by fluctuations in temperature and are partial to waters on the warmer side. These fish can be found on inshore ventures, shallow flats, and tapered inlets. Snook is a combative fish that initiates fierce battles while on the line which labels them as awesome sportfish. The waters near Tampa Bay and Clearwater are exceedingly sought-after for Snook fishing in the Florida summer. Tarpon, otherwise referred to as “Silver King,” is a ferocious opponent that showcases high-flying stunts and wicked fights. Tarpon can be discovered in the grass flats near Fort Lauderdale in the summer and anglers travel from all over the globe to get in on the action. The majority of summer tarpon fishing takes place in the Keys and they move toward the Atlantic side of Florida during the latter part of summer.
Nearshore
Nearshore waters in the summertime are notable for being among the prime fishing locations in the world. The water temperature is particularly stellar for Redfish and Speckled Trout, but it is also conducive for fish such as Grouper, Snapper, Bluefish, Black Drum, Sheepshead, and Shark. The productivity of nearshore waters is greatly enhanced during summer because the abundance of baitfish is so plentiful from March through August.
Offshore
Offshore summer fishing is terrific in Florida. Red Snapper season begins in mid-June and continues throughout the summer. This popular fish is a stunning bright red color, colossal in size, puts up a good fight on the line, and tastes delicious when prepared. Summertime is also fantastic for hooking Mahi-Mahi. Wahoo, Yellowfin Tuna, and Permit are becoming usual catches in the Florida summer, too. With luck on your side, you may even have a shot at reeling in a rare Blue Marlin or Sailfish.
